Marrakech dates back to the year 1070 and several monuments stand out as landmarks in the course of its history. First of all the Koutoubia Mosque; sister tower to Seville's Giralda - the minaret of which has become the symbol of the city. Behind the ramparts that made Marrakech a fortified city, are the Saadian Tombs. The Mausoleum reign of the 14th century shows through the delicacy of its carved wood ceiling - the great skill of Arabic craftsmen.

The more recently built, Bahia Palace (19th century) has a series of rooms, decorated in Arabic style, gardens and "Riad" planted with orange and jasmine trees.

2. Half-day walking discovery of the Medina, the Souks and Djemaa El Fna Square

The Souks of Marrakech are certainly the most colourful and the liveliest in Africa. The different trades are grouped by the services they offer: the Dyers, the Blacksmiths, and the Babouche (traditional Moroccan slippers) and shoemakers, spices and fabric sellers.

Your journey ends at the renowned Djemaa El Fna Square - a popular entertainment area where, at the end of the afternoon, storytellers, snake charmers, tooth-drawers and dancers appear to entertain the crowd in a scene that is pure street theatre (Approximate duration 3 hours).

3. Ramparts and gardens by coach, including a visit to Majorelle gardens

The Menara is a vast olive-tree garden, which surrounds an ornamental lake, reflecting in it an elegant, small pavilion. The Majorelle's botanical gardens (which use to belong to the French fashion designer Yves St Laurent) host a large variety of trees, plants and flowers from different countries of the world and a lovely, small museum with its walls famous by the “Majorelle’s Blue” colour.

Later on Sultan Mohamed Ben Abdellah used it as a base for its corsairs!
